Ottawa, ON – Ottawa cosmetic dentistry expert Dr. Pamela Li now offers the Moses, an oral airway dilator which helps to treat sleep apnea and snoring. The two-part design of the appliance makes it comfortable for patients and allows them to talk, drink, open wide and close their lips.
“There are other products that are designed to prevent sleep apnea,” notes Li, an Ottawa teeth bleaching provider. “However, many of them are uncomfortable and hold the tongue in an awkward position. They do not encourage forward positioning of the tongue.” (more…)
Ottawa, ON – No one wants to experience a dental emergency; however, it’s good to know what to do when it happens, explains Dr. Pamela Li, an Ottawa dentist.
Below are some of the most common dental emergencies and what to do about them.
Knocked Out Tooth: Rinse the tooth in contact lens solution (saline solution) or water if it’s dirty, but don’t remove any attached tissue. Do not touch the root. Reinsert if possible, but don’t put it back in if there’s a chance you might swallow it. If it isn’t possible to reinsert, put it in a glass of cold milk. (more…)
Ottawa, ON – Dr. Pamela Li is now offering Joint Vibration Analysis through her Ottawa dental practice. JVA is a product of BioResearch Associates, Inc. and is used to evaluate the functioning of the Temporal Mandibular Joint- or TMJ.
JVA is a fast, non-invasive method for evaluating TMJ function and is a valuable tool for dentists in investigating TMJ disorders. The JVA equipment consists of a simple pair of pressure sensors that the dentist places over the TMJ to record vibrations as the jaw moves. The JVA records vibration, amplitude, and frequency; it also shows exactly where in the opening/closing cycle the vibration occurs. Different TMJ disorders produce different patterns of vibration. Analyzing these patterns allows a dentist to diagnose a patient’s specific disorder. (more…)
Ottawa, ON – Most people think of regular dental appointments as important for your dental health, but dental visits are also a time when healthcare professionals can spot other medical problems.
“It’s essential that patients tell their dentists about any changes in their medical condition,” explains Dr. Pamela Li, an Ottawa smile makeover provider. The following medical conditions can be spotted by a dentist in a regular appointment: (more…)
Ottawa, ON – As the baby boom generation ages, geriatric dentistry is becoming an increasingly large component of many dentists’ practices.
“We are seeing more and more elderly patients who have specific problems related to aging and need specific kinds of care,” point out Ottawa dentists at Dr. Pamela Li’s an Ottawa cosmetic dentistry.
It used to be that older patients who had problems with teeth and gums would have tooth extractions and get dentures. However, more of today’s dental patients received high quality oral care earlier in life. (more…)
Ottawa, ON – Dr. Pamela Li’s Ottawa dental clinic has been using a new system to provide dentures for their patients. The implant supported dentures have revolutionized how dentists think of and provide dentures.
The locator system by Nobel Biocare allows dentures to be anchored right in the mouth with dental implants embedded right into the jaw. Patients don’t need to fuss with denture adhesives or dentures that feel loose. The implant system allows for more natural feeling teeth, especially in the lower jaw. Many patients have trouble getting used to complete dentures in the lower jaw. However, the new system places two or four implants in the jaw – where they act like tooth roots, making a patient’s denture feel more comfortable. “My patients are happiest with four – rather than two – implants,” explains Li, an Ottawa cosmetic dentistry provider. “But that is a more expensive proposition.” (more…)
Ottawa , ON- Ottawa cosmetic dentistry provider Dr. Pamela Li has extensive experience treating periodontal – or gum – disease. However, she notes that the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease are not well understood by many dental patients. Periodontal disease can be serious, and is the leading reason for tooth loss in Canadian adults.
The early stage of periodontal disease is gingivitis, in which plaque builds up, allows the accumulation of bacteria and causes the gums to be red and inflamed - and sometimes bleed during brushing and flossing. (more…)
Ottawa, ON- Periodontal, or gum, disease is something most people associate with adults, but, in fact, it can strike during childhood or adolescence, notes Dr. Pamela Li, an Ottawa dentist.
Gingivitis is a fairly common form of gum disease in children and is fairly easy to treat. Sometimes in adults gingivitis precedes periodontitis, a more serious kind of gum disease, which is why it’s important to recognize and treat gingivitis early.
“Periodontitis is fairly rare in otherwise healthy children,” says Ottawa dental implants provider Dr. Li. “But it’s much harder to treat than gingivitis.” (more…)
Ottawa, ON – Veneers can entirely reshape a patient’s smile, as they are the perfect solution for treating many dental conditions.
They are more conservative than crowns, but are still very strong. Bonding with white filling material is another option to reshape a smile, but they need more maintenance and do not have the natural translucency and shine of porcelain, notes Dr. Pamela Li an Ottawa dental implants provider.
Porcelain veneers are fine ceramic shells that are bonded directly to the front and top of the teeth. They are growing increasingly popular because of their simplicity and versatility. With veneers as a choice, patients don’t need to suffer with gaps between their teeth – or teeth that are stained, misshapen or crooked. (more…)
Ottawa, ON – Having whiter teeth is most patients’ number one concern about the way they look. In fact, the number of Americans who whiten their teeth has grown more than 300 percent since 1997. But, the Ottawa dental practice of Dr. Pamela Li offers a simple tooth whitening (sometimes called bleaching) process to brighten the color of your natural tooth enamel and enhance your smile.
A number of factors can cause staining or yellowing of the teeth, including: excessive fluoride, use of certain medicines during childhood, age, and consuming a lot of coffee, tea, or wine. “Many people find their teeth yellow as they get older,” explains Dr. Li Ottawa tooth whitening specialist. “The enamel on your teeth thins out and just doesn’t give you that bright white look anymore. These patients are simply looking for a way to restore their teeth to their previous color.” (more…)
